Howl

Howl into the barren silence
Our screams fall into the void
Of the blackness of
Extinguished stars

Howl, you unsettled souls
Your hearts ripped and marred
Through interaction and crisis
The lessons unlearned

Let yourself fall prostrate
On the fallow fields
Find succor there from the spiny heath
The dust shall be your milk

Disconsolate man, frail disease
How far your plans stray
What measure for this pestilence and blight
Your presence mere shadow

Howl, as if a wild thing
Carefree and unfettered
Pretend this moment each step
Remains still unmeasured

Bear witness from your grave
The hollowness of youth
Wasted on those who sought to run
Into the arms of oblivion

Look up - the close of day
Without wonder or joy
Allow the colours to fade into grey
And consider them not

Blink - allow the motion to turn
Into punctuation and strobe
Pick apart the carcass
To savour the bones

Don’t waste your breath
The Universe will not heed
And your existence mere transit
From peace to unease
