The Crush

Words like boulders
pressing crushing

pushing the air from
my lungs, rushing

I lie there, immobile
unable to breathe

as the boulders are heaped
and the air is squeezed

I do not protest
I accept this fate

I lie ever so still
as the voice berates

I have heard them before
none of them are new

Thrown like projectiles
and all of them true

Hit their mark, carry on
into my flesh they tear

The force of each, a blow
seemingly without care

Pushing, unrelenting
I feel the combined weight

Burning, and bleeding
the impact of hate

Oh, but I invited
I asked, and I sought

I didn’t once believe
It would only come to naught

I wanted the devotion
the love to be true

I wanted this life
shared utmost with you
