That voice
That one that other people don’t hear
Shouting, sometimes whispering
Always holding up the ugliness
That voice
That one that says: you’re worthless
It creeps into my soul
And taints the mirror image
That voice
You know the one
You’re fat, stupid, ugly
No one would ever want you
That voice
The one that says nothing
But silently mocks your desire for love
And feeds you wordless guilt
That voice
Perhaps it was your mother, your father, your teacher
Perhaps it was an unworthy lover
Perhaps it was only you all along
That voice
The one that says, you’re a waste of oxygen
The one that goads you to jump
The one you can’t drown out
Hold your finger in your ears
Scream at the top of your lungs
La la la la la la la
I won’t hear you any more
